Discovery confirms Einstein theory, exciting astronomers

Four days before the great American eclipse of 2017, a Clemson University scientist learned a secret that he had to hold until now. Albert Einstein predicted it. Now, astronomers say it is true. They confirmed the direct detection of gravitational waves or ripples in space time, in addition to light from the collision of two neutron stars.
 
Clemson partners with Duke to develop drone-deterring solutions for public spaces

Knowing there is growing need for affordable technology to detect and deter drones, the National Science Foundation has awarded Clemson and Duke universities with a $750,000, three-year grant to create a more economical solution for public spaces. The effectiveness of their designs will be tested at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park and Sarah P. Duke Gardens.
 
South Carolina forest landowners learn about carbon market

The carbon credit market is taking shape across the globe and South Carolina forest landowners are learning how they can take advantage of this new revenue stream while helping slow climate change. A group of forest landowners met at a recent workshop at Clemson’s Belle W. Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science to hear a South Carolina carbon market success story and learn what they need to do to write their own success stories.
